ROAD FC – Korea 001 Results: Former UFC vet Riki Fukuda victorious in main event

The ‘ROAD FC – Korea 001’ series was launched late last year for the sole purpose of serving as a launching point for foreign fighters to get into ROAD FC.

The inaugural installment of the new initiative went down Saturday night, January 18, at the Grand Hilton Convention Centre in Seoul, South Korea.

ROAD FC – Korea 001 Results: Former UFC vet Riki Fukuda victorious in main event

An online stream was catered to fans worldwide for a price of $9.99 at http://www.ustream.tv/roadfc.

The main event was highlighted by the return of former UFC vet Riki Fukuda (20-7), as he locked horns with Kim Hee Seung (6-2). Fukuda, fighting for the first time since getting his pink slip from the UFC, had a successful start to life outside the octagon as he notched a TKO stoppage victory which came at the 2:09 mark of the second frame.

The first round saw both fighters tussle in the stand-up department and clinch exchanges, but Fukuda outpointed his South Korean counterpart for the duration of the frame. In the second round, the Japanese vet secured Seung’s back, flattening him out in the process. Then with repeated blows to his head, it was only a matter of time before the referee made an intervention.

The co-main event was just as eventful. A Sol Kwon (17-8), though, had a mountain to climb after missing weight the previous day, which resulted in some serious repercussions. Along with a 2-point penalty deduction per round, officials awarded 50% of Kwon’s fight purse to opponent Mostafa Abdollahi (0-1). That effectively meant that Kwon had to garner a stoppage to gain any chance of a victory.

Fortunately for the 29-year-old, lady luck was smiling brightly on his end as a slip from Abdollahi allowed the South Korean to transition into a fight ending Rear-Naked Choke at 3:31 of Round 1.

Kwon snapped his two fight losing skid while Abdollahi, who was making his pro MMA debut, slumped to the first set-back of his career.
