Road to the Pro’s w/ Fraser Jordan – The Introduction

Where to start…

My name is Fraser Jordan and I am a mixed martial arts fighter. My road to the pro’s feels like a long one. I wrestled a bit in high school loving the sport but not really understanding what to do with it. I knew I was not going to university, and was asked if I would consider amateur wrestling as a career. At 18, a career after high school in wrestling seemed pretty far-fetched and I left the sport, or so I thought.

At twenty two I was working with an amateur kick-boxer named Joe Koropecki, who had some success training and fighting MMA as well. I started helping him prepare for a tough-man competition, doing some boxing and submission wrestling. I drifted in and out of the gym for the next 6 years, even attempting to take fights on a few occasions, but due to cards being cancelled or opponent injuries it didn’t work out.

I started training with now now heavyweight kingpin Mike Hackert in 2006 helping him for many of his fights and cornering him in his amateur and early pro career. I was behind the scenes for a lot of fights helping and sometimes running training camps for fighters.

A string of serious injuries made it seem like I would be unable to compete, but in 2010 I began making changes in my life leading towards being able to fight on a regular basis.

I have won advanced grappling tournaments, advanced Pankration tournaments and am undefeated so far in my amateur career. With the help of a great stable of both up and coming, and established fighters on the North Island, I have been able to fight four times in the past 14 months with four finishes. This included headlining two cards in Courtenay, B.C. I am looking forward to a return to the AFC cage sometime in late January.

The last 14 months have been a great ride. I have gotten to be a part of the most exciting sport in the world and make some great friends along the way. I have had a great group of training partners over this time with regular sessions including Mike Hackert, Nathan Swayze, Bill Fraser, Jodey Ingalls, Andrew Buckland, and Chase Ingalls, as well as Chris Anderson, Todd Stewart, Damian McGeary, Andrew Payne, Oren Hanscomb, Paul Murphy and Matt Sparling.

I am excited to document my road away from amateurs much like my friend Micah Brakefield recently did. I would like to say thanks to Never Tap, Reign Full Contact, PVL, FitnessETC, Pure Martial Arts and Fitness, CVFitness, the Comox Valley Boxing Club, my manager and friend Nathan Swayze, Iron Duck Clothing North, and of course my girlfriend Ali Wheeler as without her none of this would be possible.
