Road to the Pro’s w/ Micah Brakefield #19: Aching to return

It has been 6 weeks since I hurt my knee and when the doctor told me I was going to be out for 6-8 weeks, naturally I assumed I would be back training in under 3. Unfortunately that was not the case. I have been forced to sit and watch 3 Battlefield Fight League cards in a row without getting to fight. That may not seem like that much, but when you take into account that I have fought on BFL 4,6,8,9,11,12,13. Three cards in a row seems like I have been out for a decade. I wont be ready to fight on the next card either, so we can chalk that up to at least four cards in a row. I don’t know when the next pro card is going to be after that either.

It’s not all negative though. I feel as if for the first time in my life that my body is ready to start putting on weight. I have always thought that I would be better suited for the 205lbs division. I have always competed better at higher weight classes; something about the funk just works better against monsters. I’m not saying for sure that I’m going to make the jump to 205lbs for sure, but I’m going to  start a strength and conditioning program with Canada’s number one S&C coach Mr. Jeff Van Dam in the near future and I guess I will see what happens from there.

I have also been considering moving back to Vancouver Island. There are a big number of active fighters there that would be great training partners. Pro’s such as Andrew Buckland, Nick Hinchliff, Mike Hackert to name a few, along with some of my old opponents Jer “The Jerk” Kornelsen, Nathan “Road House” Swayze and of course my buddy Fraser Jordan (if you don’t know who he is yet you will soon). I have started looking for work on the island and I have some people out there actively looking for me, so for now I am just waiting to see what happens.

Well that’s all for now folks, thanks for reading.
