Robbie Lawler Defeats Jake Ellenberger in Another Impressive Win

Robbie Lawler

After a stellar bout against Johny Hendricks, Robbie Lawler is looking to continue his late rise in the MMA ranks against another fighter looking to bounce back in Jake Ellenberger. While Lawler lost to the current champ, Ellenberger lost to a very tough contender in Rory MacDonald. This was one of the most anticipated bouts of the night and it was quite probable that both fighters would not disappoint.

Robbie Lawler Defeats Jake Ellenberger in Another Impressive Win

To open the first, Lawler surprised the crowd with some heavy head kicks and was able to feel out his opponent very quickly. Ellenberger was always looking to land the big blows and his power is something you simply cannot ignore. As the round continued, Lawler continued to pick his spots and did some very serious damage to Ellenberger’s right side. In a very one sided first round, Lawler provided some of the same exciting technique that he displayed in his past few fights, earning him the clear victory in the round.

The second round provided much of the same as the first, as Lawler had his way with Ellenberger and was able to land some very impressive shots. Ellenberger was able to get a takedown, but Lawler was able to not only reverse into top position, but smile while doing so. As Lawler got to his feet, he began landing heavy blows to the head of Ellenberger while holding him down on the mat. Ellenberger’s wrestling was probably his most successful offense, landing two takedowns during the round. Even with that, it looked like Lawler did enough to come away with another dominant round.

The third round started a bit more even, with Ellenberger throwing some absolutely massive punches at Lawler’s face. However, Lawler was able to eat minimal damage and still land some of his own blows in the process. After the initial rush of punches, Ellenberger looked extremely gassed and was eating consistent damage throughout the round. After landing a few more punches, Lawler was able to land a solid knee against the cage which sent Ellenberger down to the mat. Lawler was able to finish the fight by landing some extra blows before Herb Dean called the stop.

After another impressive victory, it will be interesting to see who Lawler fights next in the welterweight division. There is a plethora of talent and any bout which features Lawler at this point should be another great bout for MMA fans.
