Lawler (27-8) won the 170-pound title on December 6, 2014 in a rematch against Johny Hendricks. He took home the split-decision in a very close fight at UFC 181. “Ruthless” is riding a three-fight winning streak and is 6-1 in his last seven outings.

MacDonald (18-2) is coming off a huge victory over Tarec Saffiedine via TKO at UFC Fight Night 54. The 25-year-old is currently riding a three-fight winning streak, with two of those three fights earning him $50,000 bonuses.

The two fought at UFC 167 in November 2013, with Lawler winning a split decision.

UFC 189 goes down on July 11 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and also featured on that card is the featherweight title, as Jose Aldo takes on Conor McGregor.
