Rory MacDonald forced out of fight with BJ Penn

September 22 has been a date circled on my calendar ever since the news broke that BJ Penn would come out of retirement to face George St-Pierre protege Rory MacDonald.

Well, it seems that fight won’t be happening, not in September at least.

UFC President Dana White confirmed in the post-fight media scrum that MacDonald had sustained a cut that was so bad that he is unable to train or have physical contact for a month.

MacDonald is widely considered to be one of the top prospects in the industry and Penn, the former dual-division titlist would have been the perfect test for him.

This leaves Penn without a dance partner in Toronto for UFC 152 and there is no word as of yet to who he will face or if he even remains on that card.
