RUFF Super Fight is coming

Press Release – Tuesday, 02 October 2012

After putting on five electrifying nights of fights seen by millions of people around the world, RUFF continues its expansion, as well as its march toward the 2013 RMB 1,000,000 Super Fight. With only two more events before it is clear which ten athletes will be fighting to become China’s first MMA national champions in five different weight classes, the battle for position is approaching a climax.

While official announcements regarding RUFF 6 andRUFF 7 will be made soon, the competitors who represent RUFF are already preparing for their next challenge. And even though they understand that success in the cage is what RUFF officials value most, it is certainly not the only factor that will go into deciding who will fight for the championship belts and the five one-million RMB prizes.

Apart from a fighter’s record, including strength of opponents and how he obtains victory (a first round KO or submission, versus a controversial split decision), value will also be placed on a fighter’s level of excitement in the cage, as well as fan appeal. If two or more fighters in the same weight class have a nearly identical record, then a determination may be made based partly on the reputation each fighter holds with the MMA fan base.

For instance, RUFF’s official website will be host to a series of polls over the coming weeks and months that will be used to gauge fan interest in our competitors. Most of RUFF’s athletes also have social media accounts for engaging with friends, followers, and supporters.

Judgment on who competes in the 2013 RMB 1,000,000 Super Fight will also be determined by the character of each fighter. A Chinese national champion should display the qualities of honor, heart, and respect both inside and outside the arena.

So while a RUFF champion – that is to say a Chinese MMA national champion – absolutely needs to demonstrate dominance in the cage, he must also consider the other features important in representing both a sport and a country.
