Submission Underground 20 Odds and Predictions

Fans are being treated to one final Submission Underground event on December 30. The folks at BetDSI just released the odds for the card. So we figured we’d dive deep with our Submission Underground 20 odds and predictions.

Submission Underground 20 odds

Mason Fowler (-500) vs. Ryan Bader (+350)

Mason Fowler has had some very impressive victories as of late, including his victory to earn the championship against Craig Jones. Most recently he defeated Satoshi Ishii at SUG 19. He has played it safe in those match-ups, as his opponents are just as dangerous and took the victories in overtime. Look for this bout against Ryan Bader to be very similar. The wrestler in Bader will look to keep the top position and we will see the time quickly fade and overtime will be upon us. In the end, Fowler will keep the title around his waist.

Prediction: Fowler via neck crank in overtime 2

Craig Jones (-700) vs. Satoshi Ishii (+450)

Both men are coming off performances at SUG 19. Craig Jones earned a rear-naked choke victory over Brent Primus and as mentioned above, Ishii lost to Fowler in the evening’s main event. Two very different styles clashing in this match. Jones will always attack and most likely, Ishii will look to evade any of Jones’ offerings. However, I do see the Aussie catching another submission in regulation this time around.

Prediction: Jones via inside heel hook in regulation

Richie Martinez (-260) vs. C.B. Dollaway (+210)

Is this a ‘styles make matches’ type bout? I think not. However, I think C.B. Dollaway at a +210 could surprise a lot of people. He has strength and that MMA grit behind him. Do I see him getting the job done against the always dangerous Richie Martinez? Nope. This match will almost 100% go to overtime, so if there is a prop bet for that, take it. And I see Richie winning one of two ways, so I’ll toss a coin.

Prediction: Martinez by fastest escape time in overtime

Gillian Robertson (-155) vs. Pearl Gonzalez (+125)

Typically Submission Underground will put an MMA fighter against a BJJ competitor. However, in this case, it’s two UFC fighters up against each other. Gillian Robertson has experience in the SUG cage and is the favorite, but Pearl Gonzalez is always scrambly and scrappy, so don’t count her out. In their MMA outings, Robertson has six submission victories and Gonzalez has five submission victories.

Prediction: Gonzalez via fastest escape time in overtime

Hunter Colvin (-125) vs. Gabriel Gonzaga (-105)

Hunter Colvin asked for the main card and also asked for Gabriel Gonzaga — he was granted both his wishes. Gonzaga was once on top of the UFC rankings, but has been more focused on grappling in the past couple of years. He is the larger of the two athletes, but Colvin impressed in his most recent SUG match in October and also took Tye Ruotolo to overtime at Combat Jiu-Jitsu Worlds 2020.

Prediction: Colvin via fastest escape time in overtime

Andy Varela (-190) vs. Ben Egli (+150)

Andy Varela looked stellar at SUG 19, with a finish of Cris Lencioni. His opponent, Ben Egli is coming off a loss to Richie Martinez at SUG 17. Both men constantly hunt for submissions and both are highly aggressive, so either could catch something. This is one match I wouldn’t put money on, but I will make a prediction.

Prediction: Varela via rear-naked choke in regulation

Benji Silva (-190) vs. Micah Brakefield (+150)

This will be the debut of Benji Silva at Submission Underground and he will be going up against one of the most decorated grapplers to grace the cage in Portland, Micah Brakefield. Anything is possible when ‘Mitey’ enters the SUG cage, so expect the unexpected. Silva is Fowler’s main training partner, so he is coming in to prove his worth.

Prediction: Brakefield via inside heel hook in regulation
