Remember when Alan Belcher (17-6) was the talk of the UFC’s middleweight division? As the late SNL cast member Chris Farley would say, “you..you..remember the time?” Belcher was riding high with wins over Herman, Kang, a controversial loss to Akiyama, and wins over Gouveia, and Cote. Things were looking bright and all of a sudden things were looking dim.
We’ve been a bit spoiled by the UFC with the last stretch of free fights. This summer, the TV fight cards full of title ramifications, guaranteed slugfests or big name draws. The only big name that went into the Battle of the Bayou was Jake Shields. Of the eight main card fighters he was the only one to headline a paper-view or hold a major league title. By the end of the night however, a new name was solidified as a bona fide contender to a UFC title. His name is Jake Ellenberger.
Being out of action for nearly 16months, it was speculated that Alan Belcher would have some serious ring rust. That was not the case against Jason MacDonald tonight at Ultimate Fight Night 25.
