Watch today's UFC on FX 2 pre-fight press conference on MMASucka.com
As always the UFC will put on their official pre-fight press conference. Today (Feb.29)...
The UFC announced days ago that Demetrious Johnson would move to the flyweight division and fight in the inaugural UFC flyweight tournament in March. This would mean that Johnson's opponent Eddie Wineland would be without an opponent for their fight at UFC on Fox 2. Look no further, former Ultimate Fighter contestant Johnny Bedford has stepped in and taken the challenge. Bedford announced the matchup via his Twitter account.
The last time that the UFC put on a free televised title fight was at UFC 75 in London England. It was the PrideFC and UFC light heavyweight unification fight of Dan Henderson versus Quinton "Rampage" Jackson. The reason why it was free was that the UFC was nice enough to keep us from paying $60.00 to watch a prerecorded fight during Saturday night prime time due to the time difference. Since then, it only made good business sense for the UFC to have all title fights as Pay Per View. The entrance of the Bantam Weights into the UFC it has given us the opportunity to watch another free televised title fight as they haven't been around that long, so it will give the casual fans a chance to get to know fighters like Dominic Cruz and Demetrious Johnson. For the hardcore fans, it was a nice freebie that we can watch at the comfort of our own homes and save some money, especially from the frantic pace of the fall MMA event line up.
You look at Dememtrious Johnson and you see a guy who you can't believe is a fighter. At 5ft 3in and maybe weighs in at 140 pounds after he rehydrates his body for his fight, the man people call Mighty Mouse relishes in the role of the underdog.
Johnson (9-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) faces Dominick Cruz (18-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) for the UFC Bantamweight title this Saturday night at the UFC Live on Versus 6 card in Washington DC. A lot people were shocked that Johnson got the title opportunity. People thought he even he lost his fight against Miguel Torres at UFC 130 which Johnson won by a close decision. Johnson won the fight and if people want to complain about it that's fine with him.
Las Vegas, Nevada – Just days before the highly anticipated UFC® bantamweight title fight between champion Dominick Cruz and challenger Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson from Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. on Oct. 1, the Ultimate Fighting Championship® will host a media conference call with the 135-pound competitors. The call, which will also feature heavyweight co-main event stars Pat Barry and Stefan Struve.
The pay-per-view event, featuring a light heavyweight contest between Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Matt Hamill, takes place at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena.
