NEW YORK (Dec. 15, 2011)—Showtime Networks Inc. and world championship mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion STRIKEFORCE® have entered into a new broadcast agreement to continue producing live MMA events on the premium television network, SHOWTIME.
LOS ANGELES, CA - FUEL TV (www.fuel.tv), FOX Sports Media Group’s dynamic entertainment and sports network for males, officially kicks off the Ultimate Fighting Championship® (UFC®) on FUEL TV January 1 with a 24-hour marathon of UFC programming featuring five show premieres. In 2012, FUEL TV telecasts more than 2,000 hours of UFC programming, with more than 100 hours of live fights, weigh-ins, preliminary bouts, and pre- and post-fight shows. In the New Year, FUEL TV offers more UFC programming than any network has ever offered.
UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre underwent surgery today on his ACL. GSP withdrew from his match with Nick Diaz at UFC 143, due to a blown ACL while training. According to his doctor in Los Angeles, California the surgery was a "huge success."
The UFC is holding a press conference today (Dec.13) for UFC 142: Rio. Just days after UFC 140, Dana White flew to Brazil to promote the organizations first show in 2012. UFC 142 is set to go down at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on January 14, 2012.
Alistair Overeem will be having a phone conversation with the Nevada State Athletic Commission for reasons that have not been announced to the public yet. During the UFC 140 broadcast the MMA world was set a buzz due to a tweet sent out that stated Overeem would be out of his fight against Brock Lesnar at UFC 141 on Dec. 30.
Shortly after Forrest Griffin got himself into some trouble for saying "rape is the new missionary" on his Twitter account and a day after Rashad Evans taunted his upcoming opponent Phil Davis by saying he's going to put his hands on him "Worse than that other dude at Penn State." Miguel Torres was spontaneously cut from the UFC.
Some bad news for the welterweight title picture came out this morning. Dana White went to twitter to announce to UFC fans that George St-Pierre was out of his February 4th title fight against Nick Diaz with a blown ACL.
