I promised controversy with my articles, but this one will waver on the side of surprising rather than controversial. For those of you who know my business and what I do for a living you may be surprised by my view on this topic. Don’t think that this is me supporting the Zuffa Sponsorship Fees, simply taking a business standpoint of the new costs involved in sponsorships in the UFC and now Strikeforce as well.
Last month the UFC made it's return to Brazil for UFC 134. Yesterday via their twitter account they announced that they will make their long anticipated return Japan. The event is expected to be held at the Saitama Super Arena on February 26,2012.
Dana White sounded just like a kid on Christmas morning as he announced the UFC's debut fight on the Fox network. The one hour prime time special will feature just one fight, a heavyweight title match-up between Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos. The fight itself is almost certain to be a barn-burner; and while that will certainly add to White's happiness it's clear the UFC President has his eyes on something bigger than just a heavyweight title fight: mainstream acceptance.
“We are going with the most prestigious championship in all of sports, the heavyweight title. So on November 12 at the Anaheim Honda Center, the UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez will take on the No. 1 contender Junior Dos Santos on the number one network in America, Fox.”
When the name Josh Barnett comes up, people think of the fact that he is a former UFC Heavyweight Champion, he tested positive for PED's three times and in some people's opinion caused Affliction to fold after he tested positive for the third time. Which in turn caused his bout with Fedor Emelianenko to be cancelled.
It did not take long for the first UFC Special to be on the Fox Network.
After agreeing to a deal earlier this month, it was announced today by Fox Sports that UFC Primetime will air on Sunday, October 30th right after NFL Football. The Primetime special is one hour behind the scenes show that features the main event fighters who will be fighting on November 12th in Anaheim, California.
Novemeber 12, 1993 in Denver, Colorado was the birthmark of the first Ultimate Fighting Championship event live on pay per view and the event was a one night tournament with Royce Gracie emerging victorious. On November 12, 2011 in Anaheim, California another historic moment for the UFC will be taking place.
