Tim Elliot will take on Jordan Espinosa in a thrilling flyweight affair this Saturday.
Taking place at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Elliot looks to expand on a one-fight win streak at UFC 259: Błachowicz vs. Adesanya. In his way is the 31-year old Espinosa. The flyweight battle will help give clarity to a division without a lot of direction. Despite the champion being set to defend his belt once again versus the game Mexican challenger, Brandon Moreno, there aren’t too many flyweight contests going around. Conversely, Espinosa is coming off one loss, so momentum differs in this matchup.

Before this pairing came to fruition, the unorthodox Tim Elliott picked up a unanimous decision victory over Ryan Benoit. Prior to that success though, the flyweight struggled quite a bit in 2020. In fact, before his skid began, Elliott was misfortunate to have to fight the rising Deiveson Figueiredo who had yet to accomplish his title aspirations. Following his submission loss to the Brazilian, Tim Elliott struggled to get back on course and dropped two more bouts albeit to tough competition. In particular, he faced Askar Askarov, lost a unanimous decision, and then got submitted once again by the young, Brandon Royval.
Contender Implications For Tim Elliott and Jordan Espinosa
Despite being on the preliminary card, this fight has all the makings of a fight of the night. The 5″6″ Espinosa has proven himself in the octagon when he beat Mark De La Rosa in a hard-fought unanimous decision. Even though Espinosa doesn’t have the experience that Elliott has, the athlete knows how to rise to the occasion. While it was in 2017, Espinosa proved how dangerous his game is when he took on Nick Urso on the Dana White Contender Series. In the end, the American would finish his opponent with a d’arce choke and lock in his UFC contract.
