Tim Sylvia steps in to face Daniel Cormier on September 29

Well, Tim Sylvia vowed to get another paycheck from Zuffa, LLC and it seems he’s going to get it, even if it isn’t what he had in mind.

Finding an opponent for unbeaten Strikeforce heavyweight tournament king Daniel Cormier couldn’t have been an easy task for Strikeforce matchmaker Sean Shelby but Tim Sylvia was quick to raise his hand.

Sylvia was a staple of the UFC’s heavyweight ranks for years capturing the top crown in the division on two occasions, defending it three times.

Cormier has parlayed his world-class Olympic-level wrestling game and quickly progressed and into a top-five heavyweight after winning the star-studded heavyweight series.

This will be the final fight on Cormier’s deal with Showtime, leaving him free to be swimming in UFC waters after September but facing a former UFC king is a risky, no win situation for the American Kickboxing Academy stand-out.
