Tom Breese vs. Antonio Arroyo UFC Vegas 28 Preview

Tom Breese (12-3)

Tom Breese will be looking to bounce back after losing his last fight in January to Omari Akhmedov via submission. This was the first submission loss of his career and brought his UFC record to 5-3. Breese has UFC wins over KB Bhullar, Dan Kelly, Keita Nakamura, Cathal Pendred, and Luiz Dutra Jr. 11 out of Breese’s 12 wins are finishes with six of those wins being submissions. Brendan Allen is the only man to be able to finish Breese via knockout. His only other loss was a split decision loss to Sean Strickland in 2016.

Tom Breese is a former BAMMA welterweight champion is holds three performance bonuses in the UFC. Breese is a black belt in Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu and trains out of Team Renegade in Birmingham, UK. Tom Breese will put his chin to the test this weekend when he takes on a finisher like Arroyo.

Antonio Arroyo (9-4)

Antonio Arroyo will come into this fight with eight of his nine wins being finishes. He has never been knocked out in his professional career. Although he was submitted in two of his four losses. Those two submission losses were very early in Arroyo’s career and were to Brendson Ribeiro and Herdem Alacabek. Arroyo fought twice on Dana White’s contender series. Finally winning his contract with a submission over Stephen Regman in 2019.

Arroyo is 0-2 in the UFC. Losing decisions to both Andre Muniz and Deron Winn. In between those two fights, Arroyo had three fights fall through the cracks. From February 2020 through November 2020, Arroyo was supposed to fight Trevin Giles, Andreas Michalildis, and Eryk Anders.

The Matchup

Tom Breese will likely come into this fight with a slight advantage in the grappling the question will be can he get the fight to the ground. Arroyo has power in his hands but has been known to get taken down a time or two in his first two fights. He will need to be able to stop the takedown if he wants to have any kind of success in his matchup with Breese this weekend. We have seen Breese struggle with really good strikers in his time with the UFC. Akhmedov, Allen, and Strickland are all guys with huge striking power and great boxing. Those three fights are also the biggest names Breese has fought in his career.

Breese will be coming into this fight as a -220 favorite and Arroyo will be coming into the contest as a +185 underdog. The oddsmakers in Vegas are really relying on Breese’s ability to get this fight to the ground. As it does seem Breese has more paths to victory than Arroyo does.
