Top 5 Prelims for October 2015

It’s the start of a new month and with it comes more UFC events on the calendar. October is another slow month for the UFC as it only has two events, which is a rarity these days. The first event is UFC 192: Cormier vs. Gustafsson on October 3. 2015 and the second event is the UFC’s return to Dublin, Ireland with UFC Fight Night: Poirier vs. Duffy (UFC Fight Night 76). Although there are only two events in October, there are still many intriguing prelims. So, with that being said, check out our top 5 prelims for October below.

  1. Norman Parke vs. Reza Madadi (UFC Fight Night 76)

Norman Parke who once was one of the bigger prospects in the lightweight division is looking to bounce back from back-to-back split decision losses against the returning Reza Madadi. Parke has not been the most exciting fighter thus far in his UFC career, but 16 of his 20 career wins have come by way of stoppage. Reza Madadi is fighting for the first time in over two years because of a stint in prison, but had won eight out of his last nine beforehand. Madadi also has 10 of his 13 wins coming by way of stoppage. With both guys main route to victory being submissions, this could make for a very entertaining grappling match-up.

  1. Rose Namajunas vs. Angela Hill (UFC 192)

Rose Namajunas looked to be on her way to superstardom after her stint on ‘The Ultimate Fighter 20’, but was unsuccessful in becoming the first UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion in a one-sided loss to Carla Esparza. At just 23-years-old and with unlimited potential, her return to the octagon has been long awaited, but due to opponent issues she has yet to get back in there. Angela Hill is another fighter who likely has a bright future and this will be another tough test for her as she looks to bounce back from her loss to Tecia Torres. Namajunas is one of the most aggressive strawweights on the roster and it should make for an exciting fight.

  1. Chris Cariaso vs. Sergio Pettis (UFC 192)

Sergio Pettis has been in the spotlight for his entire MMA career simply because of his name. Pettis, the younger brother of former UFC Lightweight Champion Anthony Pettis, has been under more pressure than most people this early into his career, but he has dealt with the pressure fairly well thus far. Pettis will have his toughest opponent to date as he takes on former title challenger Chris Cariaso. It will be a huge opportunity for Pettis to prove that he belongs amongst the best or it will be a chance for Cariaso to prove that Pettis is not quite ready for that level of opponent.

  1. Alan Jouban vs. Albert Tumenov (UFC 192)

Every single one of Alan Jouban’s UFC fights have been must watch fights. The guy is not in boring fights. Albert Tumenov is another guy who always brings it and at just 23-years-old already has 10 career victories by knockout. Not much more needs to be said, both guys will be looking for the knockout victory and one of them will get it.

  1. Joseph Benavidez vs. Ali Bagautinov (UFC 192)

Joseph Benavidez has long been the second best flyweight on the planet and it is a treat for the fans whenever he fights. Ali Bagautinov has not fought in over a year due to his failed drug test from his UFC 174 title fight loss to Demetrious Johnson, but at UFC 182 he gets back into the octagon against a guy not many people in the division are willing to face. Benavidez not only has beaten every flyweight he’s faced not named Demetrious Johnson, but he has done so in decisive fashion with four coming by way of stoppage. This is about as high level as any prelim fight will ever be and that’s why it tops our list as the best prelim for the month of October.
