UFC 152: Jones vs. Benavidez – 3 Stars

UFC 152 went down from the Air Canada Center in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on Saturday night.

The main event we saw Jon Jones defend his light heavyweight championship against Vitor Belfort. In the co-main event Demetrious Johnson defeated Joseph Benavidez to capture the first ever UFC flyweight title.

Those are just a couple of highlights from the main card. Below we will give you our three stars for UFC 152.

3. Jon Jones

The champ remained calm and focused throughout the fight, despite being quite uncomfortable from a first round arm-bar attempt by Vitor Belfort. He came out of the fight with an injured elbow, but did end up retaining his title. For this we give him our third star.

2. Cub Swanson

The underdog came into the fight being a huge underdog to his opponent, Charles Oliveira. However, early in the first round Swanson showed why he is a feared striker and one of the best in the LW division, when he landed a slick left that stunned Oliveira for a second and he was out. It was very odd to watch. The rest of the division should be on the lookout for Swanson. For that he takes number 2.

1. Demetrious Johnson

Our first star was a +230 underdog heading into his fight with Joseph Benavidez. Most folks that I’ve chat with were surprised by Johnson’s performance. Most people thought Benavidez was just that much better than Johnson, however the new flyweight champ proved them wrong. It seemed as if “Mighty Mouse” was always a second ahead of Benavidez. When the judges read the scorecards, Benavidez looked to be disappointed, however most folks where we were scored the fight for Johnson. The 5’3″ – 125lbs flyweight is now the first ever UFC flyweight champion. When he was on MMASucka Radio last week he said his wife will make him display the belt, however if it were up to him he’d probably put it in his office somewhere. The new champ is MMASucka’s first star.
