UFC 179 post-fight bonuses: 4 fighters pocket extra $50k

UFC 179 is in the books, and although the prelims were loaded with quick finishes, the main event, especially towards the beginning, was honestly pretty bad.  The main event topped the pay-per-view off very nicely with a Fight of the Year candidate, Jose Aldo vs. Chad Mendes.

In the main event, Aldo defended his belt for the second time against Mendes, but it was a lot more difficult of a fight than their first meeting together.  Aldo almost finished Mendes multiple times, and Mendes came pretty close to finishing the lone Brazilian champion a few times.  Hard shots were thrown throughout the fight, and it was very entertaining.  In the main event, Phil Davis completely manhandled the heavily favoured Glover Teixeira, winning a 30-27 decision win.  Davis remains undefeated against Brazilian fighters.

Also on the card, Fabio Maldonado took out Hans Stringer in the second round, and Beneil Dariush handed Carlos Diego Ferreira his first MMA career loss.

On the preliminary card, Neil Magny picked up his fifth win of 2014, which tied for the UFC record for greatest amount of wins in one calendar year.  Gilbert Burns picked up a submission win as well in the first fight of the night.

As always, UFC officials announced at the UFC post-fight press conference who won a $50,000 post-fight bonus.

The post-fight bonus winners are:

Fight of the Night: Jose Aldo vs. Chad Mendes

Performance of the Night #1: Gilbert Burns

Performance of the Night #2: Fabio Maldonado
