With the championship now up for grabs, two of the top featherweight fighters on the planet will clash at UFC 314 for their chance to seize company gold. Having once reigned over the division with five title defenses, Alexander Volkanovski seeks to reclaim his belt and halt the advance of the surging Diego Lopes. Before that, perennial fan-favorite Michael Chandler battles English super star Paddy Pimblett in the UFC 314 co-main event.
UFC 314 Main Event
Following a brutal knockout loss to Ilia Topuria at UFC 298, which saw him drop his strap to the Spaniard, Volkanovski took a much needed break from the sport lasting over a year. Now seemingly rejuvenated after a disastrous 2024, “The Great” is now on the hunt for the throne that he coveted for nearly five years.
Falling short in his UFC debut to the currently undefeated Russian standout Movsar Evloev, Lopes has gone unblemished in his past five fights, devouring the likes of Sodiq Yusuff, Dan Ige and Brian Ortega. Contending for his first promotional title, the Brazilian native can make history by becoming the second ever UFC featherweight champion from his home country should he prevail in the UFC 314 main event.
UFC 314 Co-Main Event
Garnering a well-earned reputation as one of the most popular fighters on the roster, Chandler has engaged in some of the most entertaining fights in the 155-lb class’ history. Currently in the midst of a two-bout losing streak, the former Bellator Lightweight Champion can thrust himself back into top contender status by handing Pimblett his first company defeat in the UFC 314 co-main event.
Logging a fearsome submission victory over King Green in his last Octagon outing, Pimblett leapt into the top 15 by putting the veteran striker to sleep with a masterful triangle choke. With clear title aspirations in mind, “The Baddy” has begun a seemingly unassailable warpath toward the top of the division, backed up by a monumental eight-fight winning streak.
