UFC Fight Night 159: Under The Radar Fights

UFC Fight Night 159 is a card jam packed with talent and excitement, including a barn burner of a main event between Jeremy Stephens and Yair Rodríguez. Since most of the attention has been on the main event for this card, MMASucka takes a look at the fights that are flying under the radar.

Brandon Moreno vs. Askar Askarov

Most of the hype around this fight is 10-0 Askar Askarov making his UFC debut. Askarov has finished each of his ten wins and looks to continue doing the same on Saturday. Brandon Moreno also has quite the storyline though. He was released by the UFC in early 2019. Following his release, Moreno took a fight with LFA and got himself a knockout win. He was then signed back to the UFC a mere 5 months after he was released. Both fighters have something to prove with this fight; they both want to show the UFC that they belong in the promotion.

Sijara Eubanks vs. Bethe Correia

Both women in this fight will be fighting for a better position in the women’s bantamweight rankings. Bethe Correia, being ranked at #15 and currently riding a two-fight losing streak, desperately needs a win this weekend. Sijara Eubanks isn’t in a much better situation, as she is ranked #14 and only has a 4-3 pro record. Both women could be on the cusp of getting cut by the UFC, so they should both be “fighting for their jobs” in a way.

Sergio Pettis vs. Tyson Nam

Like Askarov, Tyson Nam will also be making his long awaited UFC debut at UFC Fight Night 159. He has fought all over the world and holds a pro record of 18-9, with ten of those 18 wins coming by knockout. He rides a two-fight winning streak into his UFC debut, in which he will be facing off with Sergio Pettis. Pettis is 17-5 and is currently riding a two-fight losing streak. He is currently ranked #5 at flyweight. So, a win against Pettis would throw Nam right into the title picture, while a win for Pettis would be a step towards getting back into title contention.
