Former UFC fighter Paul Kelly found guilty of trafficking heroin

The Liverpool Echo has reported that former UFC fighter Paul Kelly has been found guilty of trafficking a large amount of heroin, and is now facing a potentially lengthy jail term.  The UK brawler, best known for his “Fight of the Night”-winning bout with Donald Cerrone at UFC 126, was ensnared in an investigation that began when acquaintence of Kelly’s was arrested with 1.5 kg of heroin. The investigation culminated in a series of raids in which Kelly and his associate Christopher St. John McGirr being arrested and charged with a variety of offences.

While there is no indication of exactly what kind sentence that Kelly will receive, but it’s fair to say his professional MMA career is at an end.

Paul “Tellys” Kelly (14-5) began his career with Cage Warriors Fighting Championships in 2005 with a victory over Ian Macaleese, and last fought on March 2, 2013 for Ultimate Warrior Challenge with a victory over Henrique Santana. His last match in the UFC was his aforementioned bout with Donald Cerrone, which he lost by submission in the second round.
