UFC on FOX 3: Belcher upsets Palhares with opening round stoppage

To put it simply, Rousimar Palhares scares me, but he didn’t scare long time UFC veteran Alan Belcher.

Palhares has been a UFC mainstay since 2008, during his stay in the elite 185-pound division he has had his hand raised on seven occasions, losing only to the best of the division in former title-challengers Nate Marquardt and Dan Henderson.

Belcher entered the cage tonight sporting a three-bout win streak but has been kept outside of the cage on a consistent basis but has been impressive when he does collecting getting three-straight finishes.

Most laughed when Belcher stated in his pre-fight interviews that he wasn’t afraid to go to the floor with the vicious leg-locker but he put egg on a lot of faces.

Palhares shot for a leg from the get-go looking to do what he does best but Belcher quickly looked to do his best Eddie Bravo impression seeking a twister but the talented grappler wasn’t going to allow that to happen.

The powerful Brazilian paid too much attention to removing the leg of “The Talent” that allowed Belcher to spin out of trouble and rain down punches to forced referee Dan Mirgliotta to stop the action.
