UFC on FOX 3: Diaz makes a statement submitting Miller

The fight receiving top billing tonight, a lightweight tilt with major title implications as Nate Diaz impressively disposes of Jim Miller, being the first to finish him in his MMA career.

Miller has only suffered a defeat once in his last nine fights, and that was to the reigning UFC champion Benson Henderson, the jiu-jitsu stylist most recently submitted ‘Blackzillian’ power-puncher Melvin Guillard.

Diaz recently returned to his natural weight at 155-pounds and since has looked close to invincible defeating former Pride lightweight kingpin Takanori Gomi and spoiling the perfect year of Donald Cerrone.

The younger Diaz brother controlled the tempo of their bout from the beginning being able to use his reach and distance as Miller had to fight to get inside and land shots but the boxing technique of Diaz was too much flooring him at the end of the first frame.

The second stanza was highly competitive as Miller was pressuring early but the striking of Diaz again was a major problem, Miller made the fatal mistake of searching for the takedown and essentially fell into a horrifying guillotine choke.

With this gigantic victory for Diaz, his third-straight against high-end lightweights since his return to 155-pounds he might be the logical next choice to challenge the eventual winner of Ben Henderson and Frankie Edgar’s second go around.
