One fighter returns from a long layoff, while another hopes to immediately bounce back from a loss. The UFC is planning to rebook Rustam Khabilov vs Kajan Johnson for the promotion’s first visit to Russia. UFC Fight Night: Moscow is scheduled for Sept. 15.
Khabilov and Johnson were originally scheduled to compete on Mar. 17. That was until the Dagestan native was removed due to an injury. Johnson went on to win a closely contested split decision against late replacement Stevie Ray.
High-profile second chance for Kajan Johnson
“Tiger” is riding a five-fight winning streak, all via unanimous decision, following his victory over Desmond Green last September. Johnson had his four-fight winning streak snapped by Islam Makhachev less than two weeks ago at UFC on Fox 30. Makhachev is known for being one of Khabib Nurmagomedov‘s main training partners.
After signing the bout agreement, Johnson said, “I’m excited to be retested with a similar style so that I can apply the knowledge I acquired through my loss to Islam.”
“The fight with Rustam really serves me as I already have the majority of the game plans set from before,” he continued. “I did three to four weeks of training on this guy. Also, I’m in fight shape still so it is almost as if it is not a short notice fight.”
UFC Fight Night: Moscow is headlined by a heavyweight clash between heavy hitter Mark Hunt and Ezekiel choke master Oleksiy Oliynyk. Also featured on the card is a light heavyweight bout between the returning Nikita Krylov and #4 ranked Jan Blachowicz.
