UFC Shanghai Weigh-Ins: Featherweight Contest Shifted to Catchweight Friday Morning

UFC Shanghai, the final show on the promotion’s August schedule, is almost here. Thursday night (USA time), while PFL Hollywood took place, fighters booked to appear on Saturday’s edition of UFC Fight Night took to the scales.

Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai is the setting for this weekend’s event. Inside the United States, due to the time difference between Shanghai and the Eastern Time Zone, UFC Shanghai begins with the prelims at 3 am ET/ midnight PT.

ESPN+ will carry the event live gavel-to-gavel, as well as the newly-launched ESPN direct-to-consumer streaming service. Main card action caps the morning off at 6 am ET/ 3 am PT.

The official weigh-in window for the show is now in the history books. It wasn’t a weigh-in window without its problems, however.

UFC Shanghai Co-Main Event Now a Catchweight

Originally booked as a featherweight contest, Saturday night’s co-main event pitting No. 4 contender Brian Ortega (153 lbs) and No. 7 contender Aljamain Sterling (153 lbs) will take place at lightweight.

At first, the co-main event of the evening was reported as postponed amid Ortega failing to make the 146-lb nontitle maximum. Both contestants weighed-in at the adjusted target for the five-round co-main during the window on Friday morning.

UFC Shanghai Main Event Confirmed After Weigh-Ins

Your main event of the evening will go ahead without issue following the weigh-ins. No. 13 contender Johnny Walker (206 lbs) and No. 14 contender Zhang Mingyang (205 lbs) weighed-in at or below the 206-lb nontitle maximum for light heavyweights.
