UFC Vegas 19: Four Fighters Miss Weight, One Fight Canceled

UFC Vegas 19 goes down tomorrow night but today the fighters faced a common opponent, the scale. One by one each fighter stood on the scale to make their fights official. Seemingly, there’s something in the water in Vegas because four fighters missed weight, one by an incredible 12 pounds!

UFC Vegas 19: Weighty Issues

Rafael Alves‘ official UFC debut will have to wait. He was among a handful of fighters who missed weight today but he did so in spectacular fashion. He was scheduled to take on Patrick Sabatini at featherweight and missed by 12 pounds, landing on the scale at 157.5 and a half pounds. Let that sink in. Had he been fighting at the next weight up, lightweight, he still would have missed weight. His fight with Sabatini was called off.

Ketlen Vieira is competing in the co-main event, but her wallet will be a little lighter than she was expecting. She came in heavy and as a result, will give 20 percent of her fight purse to her opponent, Yana Kunitskaya. Vieira tipped the scales at 138 pounds, three pounds north of her weight class. It’s somewhat surprising, but weigh-ins aren’t an exact science.

The main event fighters both met the heavyweight requirements as Curtis Blaydes weight 259 and Derrick Lewis came in two under the limit at 263 pounds. Their fight was made official.

Drako Rodriguez weighed in at 140 pounds for his fight with Aiemann Zahabi. The fight will proceed, but Rodriguez must forfeit 30 percent of his purse to Zahabi. Should mean a nice payday for Zahabi.

The same 30 percent penalty will be assessed against Jared Gordon who weighed in at 150 for his featherweight fight with Danny Chavez.
