About two weeks ago, Marina Rodriguez and Michelle Waterson were given main event honors for Saturday’s card as MMASucka brings you UFC Vegas 26 Results throughout. Both women normally fight at strawweight, but due to the short notice of the main event, they will be fighting up a class at flyweight.
Originally, the main event was to feature a bantamweight fight between former champion TJ Dillashaw, who was coming off a two-year suspension, and Cory Sandhagen. The fight was called off after Dillashaw suffered a cut during training, bumping the women’s flyweight fight into the top spot.
UFC Vegas 26 Results
Entering UFC Vegas 26, in her last three fights, Marina Rodriguez has put together a record of 1-1-1. That stretch started off with a draw against Cynthia Calvillo in 2019. About seven months later, in July 2020, Rodriguez suffered a loss to former women’s strawweight champion Carla Esparza. In her most recent outing, Rodriguez picked up a win as she defeated Amanda Ribas by TKO in the second round.
As for Waterson, in her last three outings, she had gone 1-2. From the end of 2019 to mid 2020, Waterson suffered back-to-back decision losses to two former champions. The first of them was a unanimous decision loss to Joanna Jedrzejczyk. Following that loss, she would lose a split decision to Carla Esparza. In her last fight, Waterson snapped the losing streak with a win over Angela Hill in UFC Vegas 10’s main event.
In the night’s co-main event, TUF 1 winner Diego Sanchez was supposed to fight Donald Cerrone. However, after being released by the UFC on April 28, Sanchez was removed from the fight and replaced by Alex Morono. Entering the fight, Cerrone has not picked up a win since he defeated Al Iaquinta in May 2019. Following that fight he suffered three straight TKO losses to Tony Ferguson, Justin Gaethje and Conor McGregor. His fourth straight loss came against Anthony Pettis as Pettis defeated him by unanimous decision. In his most recent fight, he fought Niko Price to a majority draw which has since been made a no contest after Price tested positive for marijuana.
Coming into the fight to face Donald Cerrone will be Alex Morono. After a big opportunity in a recent fight against Anthony Pettis, Morono gets another chance to pick up a win over a big name like Cerrone. After a three fight win streak from 2018-19, Morono has since gone 1-2. During that streak, he won three straight fights against Song Kenan, Zak Ottow and Max Griffin. Ottow was the only one that Morono finished as he defeated him by TKO in the first round. Morono’s win streak was snapped after suffering a knockout loss to Khaos Williams. Following that, he picked up a unanimous decision win over Rhys McKee before losing to Pettis by unanimous decision in his last fight.
UFC Vegas 26 Results
Kicking off the main card will be a middleweight bout between Phillip Hawes and Kyle Daukaus. Hawes enters the fight on a six fight win streak, undefeated in the UFC at 2-0 with a recent win over Nassourdine Imavov. Daukaus enters the fight coming off a win in his last fight over Dustin Stoltzfus.
Following that fight will be a ligthweight fight as Carlos Diego Ferreira faces the returning Gregor Gillespie. Ferreira enters the fight coming off a loss to Beneil Dariush that snapped his six fight win streak while Gillespie returns for the first time since his KO loss to Kevin Lee.
After that will be a heayweight fight between TUF 28 alum Maurice Greene and TUF Brazil 3 alum Marcos Rogerio de Lima. Each man enters the fight looking for a win after being finished in their last fights.
Finally, before the co-main event will be a weltwerweight match up between Neil Magny and Geoff Neal. These two were originally scheduled to compete back at UFC Vegas 8 until Neal was forced out with health issues. Just over eight months later, they will meet as each fighter enters off a recent loss. Magny suffered his to Michael Chiesa while Neal lost to Stephen Thompson.
