UFC follows WADA’s lead, raises threshold for positive marijuana metabolites testing

UFC Vice-President of Regulatory Affairs, Marc Ratner, announced yesterday that the Ultimate Fighting Championships will be taking a cue from the World Anti-Doping Agency and increasing the amount of marijuana metabolites required for a positive test result. This means that the benchmark of a positive test moves from 50 ng/mL to 150 ng/ML, which is effectively a tripling. Ratner made this announcement before the Nevada State Athletic Commission Steroid and Drug Testing Advisory Panel, and stated,

“When we self-regulate around the world, we are going to go the WADA standard of 150,” Ratner said. “So we’re starting that immediately.”

Brazil’s Comissão Atlética Brasileira de MMA (CABMMA), the country’s national athletic commission, has also announced that they will be raising their marijuana metabolite positive test threshold to be in line with WADA’s. There is no word yet from the NSAC as to whether or not they will follow suit.
