ONE FC officials have confirmed with MMASucka.com that a Flyweight title tilt pitting former UFC veteran Yasuhiro Urushitani (20-6-6) against Shinichi Kojima (13-5-5) is set to headline the promotion’s return to Indonesia on September 13th. Jakarta’s Istora Senayan is the venue that has been selected to host the event.
CEO of ONE Fighting Championship, Victor Cui, stated, “ONE FC will be back in Jakarta on 13 September with a stacked fight card that is sure to get the adrenaline pumping for the passionate Indonesian fight fans. This event is one of the largest sporting events in the history of Indonesia and features the two best Flyweights in Asia squaring off with the first ONE FC Flyweight World Championship title belt on the line. More than 15,000 fans will pack out the Istora Senayan to witness the greatest sporting spectacle in the world.”
ONE FC’s first trip to Indonesia saw an audience of just over 4,300 spectators. September’s event will represent a larger step for the Singapore-based promotion, as they continue their expansion throughout the Asian region.
Fans from around the world will be able to witness the action online via ‘LIVE’ streaming at www.onefc.livesport.tv. The first two undercard fights are available for viewing free-of-charge and the main card fights will be available for purchase at just US$9.99.
Urushitani is a familiar face, having already competed in the UFC and now, ONE FC. The 36-year-old Japanese veteran is not a stranger to Shinichi Kojima either. Both fighters have met on 2 occasions in the past, with both bouts ending in a draw. The 3rd meeting between these fighters will be more significant, as only one of them will be leaving the cage on September 13th ten pounds heavier. Following back-to-back defeats in the UFC, Urushitani most recently snapped his losing streak with a controversial split-decision victory over Rey Docyogen at ONE FC 9: Rise to Power.
Kojima, in the meantime, is 3-2 in his last 5 outings and is rated very highly in the region. The 34-year-old is a Shooto veteran who marked his promotional ONE FC debut in style with a submission victory over the aforementioned Docyogen at ONE FC 7: Return of Warriors in February.
ONE Fighting Championship will also be looking to add more fuel to the fire by igniting the rivalry between Indonesia and Malaysia. 2 fights have been announced for the undercard, featuring Vincent Majid (0-0) vs. Eugenio Tan (1-1) & Stefer Rahardian (0-0) vs. Raymond Tan (1-0).
