One of Bellator’s top lightweight contenders finds himself in potentially hot water in Russia over accusations of ramming a police officer with a vehicle.
The Russian news agency TASS reported that that the Bellator fighter Usman Nurmagomedov, the cousin of Khabib Nurmagomedov, was arrested at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport after a flight he was on landed at the airport. Another person, Kamal Idrisov, was also arrested with Nurmagomedov as both men are suspected of hitting a police officer with a car as mentioned earlier.
The alleged incident happened in Dagestan at the Kaspiysk Airport before Nurmagomedov and Idrisov boarded a plane that would bring them to Moscow where they were ultimately arrested.
TASS states that in the reports that the incident occurred at 11:30 a.m. local time in Russia at an airport checkpoint after police officers demanded that a Toyota Camry with tinted windows and no license number pull over for inspection. Police say the driver, who couldn’t be identified due to the tinted windows, ignored police officers and sped up and over a security barrier, running over a police officer.
Bellator was able to be reached for comment according to MMA Fighting and said “The promotion has been made aware of the situation involving Usman Nurmagomedov and is in the process of gathering information and have no further comment at this time.”

Nurmagomedov is currently the third-ranked fighter in the Bellator lightweight division and is expected to compete for the promotion’s title in 2022 and is currently 3-0 in the promotion with an overall record of 14-0.
