Walt Harris vs. Marcin Tybura – UFC Vegas 28 Preview

A heavyweight tilt is on deck this Saturday at UFC Vegas 28 between Walt Harris and Marcin Tybura.

Taking place within the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, heavyweight fights are wholesale as the main event will also feature the big men throwing hands. In particular, the event will be headlined by top-ranked striker Jairzinho Rozenstruik looking to rebound after a lackluster performance against rising HW contender Ciryl Gane and will meet a crafty striker in Augusto Sakai this weekend.

Walt Harris vs. Marcin Tybura – A Closer Look

However, for now, let’s take a closer look at the heavyweights in the co-main event of the evening. First, it’s important to note that momentum could not be further apart. Specifically, Harris is now on a two-fight losing streak. While the heavyweight endured a personal tragedy there is no doubt that his back is up against the wall against Tybura who is riding a nice four-fight win-streak.

Walt Harris Looking To Get Back To His Winning Ways Against Tybura

After enduring a personal tragedy, it’s inspiring just to see Harris back in the cage. Certainly, after “The Big Ticket” lost to Alistar Overeem following a successful and early onslaught, Harris understands that a win at UFC Vegas 28 is paramount to the continuation of his career. Before his slump of losses to top-tier competition, Harris looked like an absolute animal in the UFC. The heavyweight striker had a stellar 2019 but has not won since then. Most recently, Harris dropped a fight to Alexander Volkov, being finishing in the second round.

In particular, when Harris lets his striking go, his wild angles often catch opponents and send them crashing to the mat. An example of his wild but calculated striking and power came against Aleksei Oleinik, where the 37-year old American ran through the submission legend with a flying knee and follow-up strikes for the finish. If Harris shows up and implements a fast aggressive strategy early, his technique, speed, and power are difficult assets to match.

Marcin Tybura Headed Towards Title Talks With Win Over Walt Harris

With four wins in a row, Tybura’s well-roundedness is paying dividends in his last couple of fights in the UFC. Tybura’s top pressure is a problem, but sometimes the heavyweight struggles to get the fight navigated to the positions in which he dominates the most.

Surely, if the Poland-native can enact his game plan and focus on shutting down the striking and mobility of Harris, it is Tybura’s fight to win. After all, if Tybura is successful he will be on a five-fight win-streak. Within the heavyweight division, that is a big feat and clearly, after a string of wins like that, title talks will have to start surfacing.
