WORLD SERIES OF FIGHTING – GLOBAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Erokhin Crowned Champion / Gono KOed / Drysdale to Headline WSOF GC 3

Fight Held on February 7 at Tokyo Dome City Hall in Tokyo, Japan

LAS VEGAS, NV  February 7, 2016              World Series of Fighting – Global Championship (WSOF-GC) brought the world to Japan and the fans were thrilled with six highlight reel knockouts on the card.

The main event crowned the inaugural WSOF-GC World Heavyweight Champion, as Russia’s Evgeny Erokhin (14-4) defeated USA’s Brandon Cash (10-4) via TKO in the first round due to a knee injury. It appears the injury happened when Evgeny checked a leg kick earlier in the round and it continued to deteriorate from that point. Referee Chris Tognoni stopped the fight when it appeared Cash was unable to continue placing support on it. This fight marks Erokhin’s ninth straight win via KO/TKO.

In the co-main event, Slovakia’s Miroslav Strbak (13-5-1) delivered a crushing face-first knockout to Japanese legend Akihiro Gono (34-20-8) in the second round. Rounding out the main card were three straight victories for Japan, as Michihiro Omigawa (17-14-1) defeated France’s Teddy Violet (10-2) via split decision; Yusaku Nakamura (12-4-1) defeated USA’s Lawrence DiGuilio (17-7-1); and Hisae Watanabe (20-6) returned to the cage after an eight-rear retirement to win by TKO against South Korea’s Lee Ye-Ji (0-2).

Before the main event, WSOF-GC commentator Robert Drysdale (6-0) announced that he would be headlining WSOF-GC 3 China in late April with a main event World Light Heavyweight Title fight. This will mark Drysdale’s return to action after nearly a two-year layoff. Drysdale said, “I’ve been training hard and in the gym every day. It’s wonderful to have the opportunity to fight for WSOF Global. I hope I can bring the belt back here to Japan and defend it for all of the great fans that have showed us all so much support here.”
