UFC takes over 11 strawweight Invicta contracts, women to compete on ‘TUF 20’

On a UFC conference call today (December 11) President Dana White announced that Invicta has assigned 11 women’s strawweight contracts to the UFC.

The women will compete on an all female season of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ with the winner becoming the inaugural UFC strawweight champion.

Contracted fighters include Carla Esparza, Claudia Gadelha, Alex Chambers, Felice Herrig, Bec Hyatt, Emily Kagan, Juliana Lima, Rose Namajunas, Tecia Torres, Paige VanZant and Joanne Calderwood.

While it looks as if the UFC has taken over Invicta, White made it crystal clear that it would not be a smart move for them to do so.

“Buying Invicta wouldn’t do the sport any good, wouldn’t do anyone any good. No sense in buying business which is growing.”

White said the coaches would more than likely be men and the remaining roster spots will be done with open tryouts.

TUF 20 will premiere on May 18.
