We are just under four months away from Jon Jones re-entering the Octagon to defend his light heavyweight championship against Glover Teixeira in the main event at UFC 172.
Jon Jones a massive favorite in UFC 172 main event against Glover Teixeira
Even though we are still that far out, odds makers have thrown out some early lines on the fight and Jones is entering as a giant favorite. In fact, some sites have him as big as a -750 favorite and Teixeira a +495 under dog. These are a lot like the live World Cup odds where people are betting on FIFA World Cup 2014 this June. If you want to win big, you must bet early and Teixeira could be bring home some money for you and the gold for himself.
Jones (19-1) is well on his way to cementing his status as the greatest light heavyweight fighter of all time. With the only blemish on his record coming from a bizarre disqualification due to an illegal elbow, Jones has laid waste to the 205 lbs. ranks, with victories over everybody from Mauricio “Shogun” Rua to Lyoto Machida. Last seen earning a unanimous decision victory against Alexander Gustafsson in a bout that made him look all too human, the cocky “Bones” will be looking to rebuild his aura of invincibility with a convincing win over his latest Brazilian challenger. Will he get that decisive victory over Teixeira?
Teixeira (22-2) is, without a doubt, one of the scariest men fighting in the UFC’s light heavyweight division. Normally a kind fellow outside of the cage, a switch flips once the door locks and turns the Brazilian from Dr. Jekyl into Mr. Hyde. Don’t believe it? Watch his buzzsaw-like victories over the likes of Fabio Maldonado, James Te Huna, and – most recently – Ryan Bader. The Brazilian murder machine has made it clear that he wants to be at the top of the UFC’s 205 lbs. division. Will he be able to scale the summit and defeat Jones for the Light Heavyweight Title?
UFC 169 goes down on Feb. 1st, 2014, from the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. The card is headlined by a Light Heavyweight Title bout between dominant champion Jon Jones and surging challenger Glover Teixiera. Stay tuned to MMASucka.com for more on this and other events.
