At UFC 148, Tito Ortiz bid adieu to the UFC octagon, as he lost his final fight to Forrest Griffin.
It was later revealed by Pro MMA Radio host Larry Pepe that Griffin obtained a therapeutic use exemption for testosterone replacement therapy. Griffin beat Ortiz by unanimous decision this past Saturday at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Even though Nevada State Athletic Commission Executive Director Keith Kizer confirmed that Griffin’s TRT limits were within allowable limits, Ortiz was not pleased.
In a recent interview with AXS TV’s Inside MMA, Ortiz stated, “This sport has come so far in such a short amount of time, I hope this [TRT] does not become an epidemic.What kind of message are we trying to send the youths that are watching our sport?”
“This is the same thing that we are trying to stop from happening. All of a sudden in the last six months it’s legal to do. You’re allowed to be six times over the average,” said Ortiz. “Since day one i’ve been competing over the last fifteen years, I’ve been on an even field. Now, why all of a sudden can fighters be six times higher than the average person? I think we’re sending the wrong message out to fans and to kids who want to be UFC fighters and mixed martial arts fighters.”
