Shogun Rua working towards beating Jon Jones in a rematch

|

Former light heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua is looking to get his light heavyweight championship back from the current champ Jon Jones. He was recently part of a live fan chat over at Yahoo! Sports and stated the fight he wants is a rematch with Jon Jones.

“That’s the fight I want. I want my title back. I think he is much easier to study Jon Jones now… last time the guy was a brand new style in the UFC. Now we’ve seen him fight other guys and have more information what he’s going to do in the Octagon. I am working towards beating him in a rematch.”

Jones defeated “Shogun” back at UFC 128 to claim the light heavyweight championship belt.

Since his loss to Jones, the former champ has been pushing to get back in title contention by knocking out Forrest Griffin and coming up short in the “Fight of the Year” against Dan Henderson. His next opponent is Brandon Vera in the main event of UFC on FOX 4 on August 4. UFC President Dana White has stated that this main event match-up has serious title implications in place, so if “Shogun” wins in impressive fashion his wish may come true.
