“The All American Kid” came up short against the “blessed” Hawaiian as Holloway was able to upset the TUF 15 alumnus.
Holloway was able to establish the jab early and land a big left that bloodied Lawrence. He was able to connect with a couple of knees that scored points and pain before the first round ended.
Lawrence came out in the second throwing out front and side kicks which were largely ignored as Holloway continued to rely on his boxing and walk down the Texan. Holloway continued to score on a tentative Lawrence until a massive body shot crumpled Lawrence and Holloway jumped on and pounded away for the win.
Max Holloway:
“That was my best fight to date by far and I was able to go in there and get the finish. I don’t have too many finishes on my record so that’s always a bonus. We’re both strong strikers and a lot of times when two strikers get in there it can turn into a wrestling match. I’m glad Justin went in there and banged with me and I’m even happier that I came out on top. I saw the first knee and the body shot and he went down so I knew he didn’t want to fight anymore. I jumped in there and got the finish as quickly as I could.”
Justin Lawrence:
“I went out there and fought hard. I thought I was winning the fight up until the knee and the body shot. I’d rather take a shot to the head every time over the body. I fight for the fans and give them all the thanks that I can step in there.”
