Georges St-Pierre has not been inside the octagon since his unanimous decision win against Jake Shields at UFC 129 back in April 2011. The news that all MMA fans have wanted to hear has been made. GSP has officially been medically cleared to fight the welterweight interim champion Carlos Condit at UFC 154.
The champ, St-Pierre tweeted the news today.
I’m now medically cleared to compete in professional mixed martial arts events- Rendez-vous le 17 novembre, @UFC 154, Montréal!!! Special thanks to Dr. ElAttrache & Heather at @KerlanJobe, Gavin at @sportsciencelab & all of you great fans for the amazing support.
Condit won the interim championship back at UFC 143, where he out-pointed Nick Diaz in the main event. The bout was highly controversial, but ultimately as Dana White says, “Don’t let it go to the judges.”
With ACL surgery in the rear-view mirrior, St-Pierre will look to get back to his winning ways. With a win over Condit, UFC President, Dana White stated that a super-fight between Anderson Silva and GSP would make the most sense.
UFC 154 is set to go down on November 17 at the Bell Center in Montreal, Canada. Also on the card is a possible number one contender bout between Johny Hendricks and Martin Kampmann.
