LOS ANGELES, CA – FUEL TV airs “UFC 101: The Fundamentals,” Monday, September 3 (11:30 PM ET.) Hosts Kenny Florian and “Suga” Rashad Evans lead viewers through the fundamentals of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in this FUEL TV original 30-minute special. Learn everything from fighting styles and submission moves to rules of the Octagon. This show is a viewer’s one-stop shop to becoming a more informed UFC fan.
“Mixed martial arts is still a growing sport,” says Host Florian. “It’s important that we educate the new and core fans about MMA and this show will do just that. In it we talk about tactical stuff, statistics and technical aspects of the sport. This is a big step forward to getting people to understand the strategies in the Octagon. We break down and explain why guys fight against the cage, what a striker or a wrestler is trying to do, why someone is in the guard and why someone passes the guard.”
Florian, a multiple-time UFC title contender, begins with the basics of UFC bouts, including explaining each of the eight weight classes, the rules of the fights and how judges score each round. Then he and Evans, a former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, take viewers through the different fighting styles including striking, wrestling, Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Lastly, the two get on the mat and breakdown different types of submissions such as triangle chokes, arm bars and rear naked chokes.
