At UFC on FUEL TV 5 in Nottingham, England, UFC President Dana White told the media that Rashad Evans was offered a fight with Glover Texeira at UFC 153, but ultimately turned it down due to short notice.
Texeira was originally supposed to fight Quinton “Rampage” Jackson in the co-main event of UFC 153 on Oct. 13 at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Unfortunately, Rampage was forced to withdraw from the fight due to injury. Fabio Maldonado will now take his place to take on Texeira on just three weeks notice.
During the UFC on FUEL TV telecast, Evans served as a guest analyst and gave his reasoning for not taking the fight. He then followed up on his Twitter account.
I will fight anybody with the proper notice.. But after 8yrs with the UFC & being one of their top earners. Y would I take a bad fight?! Bad fight meaning not being in shape. Losing is hard enough but I will never serve myself up! If I’m haven’t been training I won’t fight!I know alot of u fans may not realize but I don’t walk around ready 2 fight. No one does. In this sport it takes at least 8wks 2 b ready! Fighting another person is much harder than most ppl think & if im not training it takes time 2 get ready. There r no easy fights!
It was stated recently that Evans would possibly make the drop to 185lbs, however no word as to where, when or what weight division he will fight in when he makes his return. MMAjunkie.com is reporting that the former champ will look to make his return in a December or January match.
