Jim Miller bloodies up Joe Lauzon to take the decision at UFC 155

Joe Lauzon and Jim Miller are two very dynamic grapplers in the 155lbs division.

However, the first round saw both men trading blows. Miller threw some very heavy punches and elbows to bloody Lauzon up and then attempted a standing arm-triangle. The fight was stopped for doctors to check Lauzon’s bloody mess, however the doctor allowed the fight to continue. The two finished round one and no takedowns were attempted.

Lauzon throws up the arms to start round to in an attempt to pump up the crowd. Miller landed the first takedown of the fight less than 30 seconds into the second round. Miller moved into half guard and landed numerous shots to the bloody Lauzon. Lauzon was able to sweep Miller on an attempted D’Arce Choke. When Lauzon ended up in the top position, referee Yves Lavigne stopped the fight to get Lauzon’s gloves fixed. Lauzon attempted a leg lock to end the second round.

The two combatants touched gloves to begin the final round. Both throw nice combinations to start the round and a leg kick dropped Lauzon. Lauzon landed a nice knee to the body that backed Miller up, however didn’t follow up. With 30-seconds left in the final round, Lauzon jumped for a leg lock, but Miller muscled out. He then finished the round with a deep guillotine choke, but the final bell sounded.

The two combatants spoke following the fight.

Jim Miller: 

“Joe Lauzon is a tough kid. I knew I was going to have to bring my best effort to put him away and I was never able to. That’s how good he is on the ground. And even in the last minute, look what he was trying to do to win the fight. I’m pleased with this win and I’m looking forward to getting back in the gym again.”

Joe Lauzon:

“I’m feeling a little sore, but what else would you expect from a fight like that? Miller is a great fighter and I knew that coming in to this. His game plan was just as we expected, a few more takedowns, but he was able to get the win tonight.”
