Conor McGregor vying for spot at UFC 159 against Al Iaquinta

|

Early on Thursday it was announced that Joe Proctor was forced out of his UFC 159 bout with Al Iaquinta. There has yet to be a replacement named, but UFC newcomer Conor McGregor is vying for that spot.

“Notorious” took to Twitter to campaign for the match-up.

The former Cage Warriors lightweight champion debuted with the UFC this past weekend at UFC on FUEL TV 9 in impressive fashion. It took him just over one minute to knock out former TUF contestant Marcus Brimage, which earned him “Knockout of the Night” honors.

The victory was McGregor’s ninth straight and impressed UFC President Dana White. At the UFC on FUEL TV 9 post-fight press conference, White stated that the 24-year old would be booked for the upcoming UFC on FOX Sports 1 debut card.

If the organization does go with this fight it will be McGregor’s second fight in just three weeks.

UFC 159 goes down on April 27 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The main event is for the UFC light heavyweight championship, as TUF 17 coaches Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen go to war.
