UFC on FOX 7 goes down this weekend from the beautiful HP Pavilion in Anaheim, California.
In the main event UFC Lightweight Champion Benson Henderson will look to keep his title against Strikeforce Lightweight Champion Gilbert Melendez. This will be the first unification bout since Anderson Silva defeated Dan Henderson at UFC 82 to unify the PRIDE and UFC championships.
With the event being stacked from top to bottom it was difficult to pick fighters who were inching themselves ever so close to being cut. I had to scour the card and it wasn’t until the Facebook prelims that I found some.
So with that check out MMASucka.com’s “The Hit List”.
Anthony Njokuani and Roger Bowling
Fighting eachother
Njokuani came over to the UFC when they acquired the WEC and debuted back in 2011. He has a 2-3 record inside the octagon and is coming off a loss to Rafael dos Anjos at UFC on FUEL TV 4 this past July. He suffered a broken hand in the loss and was sidelined for quite some time. With the half decent record and the loss, another shot on his record will more than likely send him south. Bowling is also coming off a loss – his was at the hands of Tarec Saffiedine. “Relentless” was brought over from Strikeforce when the UFC bought them out, but hasn’t fought since August of last year. Two straight losses in such a stacked division could force Bowling to be cut as well.
Clifford Starks and Yoel Romero
Fighting eachother
Starks came into the octagon on a very impressive 8-0 run, however in his debut he lost to Ed Herman. Even though he only has one loss on his professional record, with the middleweight division the way it is I could see two in a row being a nightmare for Starks. Romero will make his UFC debut coming off the first loss of his professional career at a Strikeforce event back in September of 2011 to Rafael Cavalcante. For someone making their UFC debut and having not fought in almost two years another loss would definitely include a pink slip.
