The hottest rivalry in women’s MMA may be seeing its second chapter take place at the close of 2013 when “Rowdy” takes on “Cupcake” for the UFC women’s bantamweight title.
MMA Junkie is reporting that the fight between the TUF 18 coaches will go down on December 28th, 2013 at UFC 168.
Rousey vs. Tate II pencilled for UFC 168
“Rowdy” Ronda Rousey (7-0) is the current face of WMMA, and the highest profile female fighter in the world to date. The bronze medalist in Judo at the 2008 Summer Olympics has been on a tear, taking 7 first round submission victories home in 7 professional fights. This includes an tendon-shredding win over her next opponent and fellow TUF 18 coach Tate. Will she be able to make history repeat itself on December 28th?
Meisha “Cupcake” Tate (13-4) is the woman who would be queen of the mountain, but except for one brief moment in Strikeforce, has never quite been able to pull it off. She was dethroned for the Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight title by Rousey, and was foiled in her initial attempt at becoming a coach opposite her nemesis on the 18th season of the Ultimate Fighter by Cat Zingano. However, she lucked into the slot after Zingano injured herself severely in training. The grappling specialist is hoping to prove she’s learned from the past in her rematch with the ace judoka? Will she be able to go home with her arm intact and a belt around her waist?
