The end of the year could see a clash between two of the UFC’s top young heavyweights in Travis Browne and Stipe Miocic if matchmakers get their way.
UFC Tonight reported that the match-up is being eyed for either UFC on FOX 9 or UFC 168.
Travis Browne vs Stipe Miocic reportedly being arranged for December
Travis “Hapa” Browne (16-1-1) has been on a tear for the majority of his UFC career, with wins over Stefan Struve, Gabriel Gonzaga, and – most recently – Alistair Overeem to his credit. With his only loss being an injury-caused TKO to Antonio Silva, it’s safe to say that the Hawaiian heavyweight is one of the UFC’s top prospects. Will he be able to add another big name to his list of victories against Miocic?
Stipe Miocic (10-1) is riding high after his dismantling of Roy Nelson at UFC 161 earlier this year. The Team Strong Style member has slowly been building his resume, with his only loss coming to the ultra-lanky Stefan Struve. Will he be able to continue his way forward with a career-defining win over Browne?
UFC on FOX 9 is now tentatively set for December 14th at the Sleep Town Arena in Sacramento, CA, and is tentatively headlined by a UFC Lightweight Title bout between champion Anthony Pettis and the fighting pride of Cole Harbour, NS, T.J. Grant. UFC 168 goes down two weeks later on December 28th, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV. That card is set to be headlined by a rematch for the middleweight crown between champion Chris Weidman and the man he beat to get the belt, Anderson Silva.
