Francis Carmont defeats Costas Phillippou in uneventful unanimous decision

In the second fight of the night, Francis Carmont took on Costas Phillippou and the fight was not the biggest crowd pleaser. In the very first round, Phillippou tried to use his striking, but Carmont was having nothing of it. They continued to do battle but once Carmont got the takedown, it was difficult for Phillippou to muster any type of offense. Carmont is clearly the better wrestler and worked heavily at making sure he could go three rounds sitting on top of his opponent.

The second round was very much the same, with Phillippou losing a lot of his energy trying to get off the mat. With him on his back for most of the fight, Carmont was able to stay safe from the dangerous stand up and keep the fight in his environment. In class Carmont style, he dominated the fight, at least the crowd’s opinion, in the most boring way possible. But then again, wrestling is part of the game. If you can stop it.

By the third round, it became clear that Phillippou had no answer for Carmont’s wrestling, leaving him vulnerable to takedowns regularly. As the fight went on, it became more evident that Carmont was not going to give him controlling his opponent on the ground, regardless of the crowd’s reaction. Phillippou is a very dangerous striker and Carmont did everything he needed to come away with the victory.
