Lyoto Machida and Mark Munoz are coming into this fight with two very different outcomes in their last bout. Machida lost a very close, maybe controversial, decision to Phil Davis. Munoz on the other hand, is coming off the complete destruction of Tim Boetsch. Though it was a decision win, Munoz proved ready to bounce back after a KO defeat to Chris Weidman. While Machida was looking to get back in the win column in a new division, Munoz was set to prove why he is a top Middleweight in the UFC.
Lyoto Machida defeats Mark Munoz with a devastating head kick in the first round
The first round started extremely slow, with both men showing respect to one another’s stand up skills. Machida threw a few body kicks which clearly did some damage. Munoz was doing very little at this point, backing up from Machida for the most part. Machida was slowly gaining confidence and was waiting to pick his spot.
With Munoz backing up and trying to block his head, Machida threw a devastating head kick which put Munoz flat on the mat. Without even landing another blow, the referee ended the fight, giving Machida his first win as a middleweight fighter.
