How do you solve a problem like an injury to Jamie Varner? You call up Bobby Green, apparently. Green announced via his Facebook that he will be stepping up to the plate to face Pat Healy at UFC on FOX 9.
Varner announced that he tore his rotator cuff yesterday via his Twitter, and UFC officials have confirmed that verbal agreements are in place for Green to step in against Healy.
Jamie Varner out, Bobby Green in to face Pat Healy at UFC on FOX 9
“King” Bobby Green (21-5) was already part of the discussion surrounding UFC Fight Night 31: Fight for the Troops 3, winning his bout against James Krause in controversial fashion after a pair of low blows followed up by questionable kick to the belt line. The Strikeforce import is currently on a 6 fight winning streak thanks to that victory, and will be looking to make it 7 next month. Will he hit that lucky number against Pat Healy?
Pat “Bam Bam” Healy (29-17, 1 N/C) has had one of the more interesting runs since coming to the UFC from Strikeforce. After defeating Jim Miller at UFC 159, Healy subsequently had the results over-turned after testing positive for marijuana metabolites. Upon his return, he lost to Sambo powerhouse Khabib Nurmagomedov by decision. Now, Healy will be looking to get his name back in the win column. Can he get there at the expense of Bobby Green?
UFC on FOX 9 goes down on Dec. 14th at the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, CA. The event is currently set to be headlined by a UFC Flyweight Title rematch, pitting champ Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson against Joseph Benavidez in a redux of the inaugural 125 lbs. title bout.
