Kelowna, BC’s Michael “The Messenger” Hill is coming in to his fight at World Series of Fighting 7 on a two fight losing streak, but over the past few months he has been dealing with much more than that.

Michael Hill went from living in car to fighting in WSOF cage

Back in July, Hill was a last minute replacement to take on Ryan “The Real Deal” Ford in the main event at AFC 19. Just before the fight, the Toshido fighter got word that his dad had had a heart attack. Being a fighter, he still stepped inside the cage, fought his fight and then made his way to Powell River, BC to support his ailing father.

Right before the [Ryan] Ford fight – a week before my dad actually had a heart attack. When I got back to Kelowna, I drove back down [Powell River, BC] right away to be with my dad and my family. It ended up taking three months to get him back on track and I didn’t want to push him too hard, too quick or push him at all. I knew there would be a nutrition stage and I knew we had to change his lifestyle with what was around him and stressing him out. That took three months – three months with no work, three months of paying rent in Kelowna when I’m not even there and everything else.

Being away from home in Kelowna paid the price on Hill and he took a sacrifice that not many others would do. When his house that he was expected to rent wasn’t available, the 26-year old pulled up a blanket and pillow and called his car home for a few nights.

When I got back to Kelowna and I heard about the fight, my house didn’t come through that I was planning on renting, so I actually had to live out of my car for a couple of days. It is what it is and it wasn’t that stressful at all – it’s a fighter lifestyle and it made me that much stronger. I’m safe now, I’m surrounded by people that love me, good friends and good family and I’m just ready to fight.

We will see on Saturday night at WSOF 7 in Vancouver, BC whether or not it made him a stronger fighter, as he takes on Richard Arsenault on the preliminary portion of the fight card.
