Kicking off the main card on the FOX network are lightweights Joe Lauzon and Mac Danzig.
Lauzon was able to get the fight to the mat just under one-minute in to the first round. He was able to transition in to mount and Lauzon looked to take the armbar from the mounted position. Danzig held on and turned things around – ending up in Lauzon’s closed guard. Lauzon’s active guard game helped him get back to his feet. With less than a minute left, Lauzon was able to get a trip takedown and end up in top position. He rode out the round in that position.
Joe Lauzon wins unanimous decision against Mac Danzig
Danzig opened up the round with a couple of nice combinations of punches and leg kicks. Inside the clinch, Danzig was able to utilize his short elbows and on the break he landed a few one-two combinations. The two clinched again and Lauzon was able to land some knees. Danzig went for a trip, but wound up on his back in a closed guard position. Lauzon landed a big elbow that opened up Danzig from inside his closed guard. Lauzon pushed aside Danzig’s butterfly guard to get to side control and then transitioned to mount. He finished the round going for another mounted armbar.
Danzig begins the third round with a flurry. The referee stepped in to check Danzig’s nose after an accidental head butt by Lauzon. Lauzon picked up another trip takedown, which was his third in the fight. Lauzon moved himself in to the mounted crucifix and began throwing big elbows. He then moved to mount and again moves to s-mount to go for the armbar. Danzig was able to roll out and end up on top of Lauzon. However on a transition, Lauzon moved back to Danzig’s guard.
